String tension and glueball masses of SU(2) QCD from perfect action for monopoles and strings
We study the perfect monopole action as an infrared effective theory of SU(2)
QCD. It is transformed exactly into a lattice string model. Since the monopole
interactions are weak in the infrared SU(2) QCD, the string interactions become
strong. The strong coupling expansion of string model shows the quantum
fluctuation is small. The classical string tension is estimated analytically,
and we see it is very close to the quantum one in the SU(2) QCD. We also

A chloroplast phylogeny of Arisaema (Araceae) illustrates Tertiary floristic links between Asia, North America, and East Africa
The evolution of Arisaema is reconstructed, based on combined sequences (2048 aligned bases) from the chloroplast trnL intron, trnL-trnF spacer, and rpl20-rps12 spacer obtained for species from all 11 sections, including sectional type species and geographically disjunct East African and North American/Mexican species. Analyses were rooted with a representative sample of the closest outgroups, Pinellia and Typhonium, to rigorously test the monophyly of Arisaema. Sections in Arisaema are mostly based on leaf, stem, and inflorescence characters and, with one exception, are not rejected by the molecular data; however, statistical support for sectional relationships in the genus remains poor. Section Tortuosa, which includes eastern North American A. dracontium and Mexican A. macrospathum, is demonstrably polyphyletic. The third New World species, A. triphyllum, also occurs in eastern North America and groups with a different Asian clade than do A. dracontium/A. macrospathum. The genus thus appears to have entered North America twice. Fossil infructescences similar to those of A. triphyllum are known from approximately 18 million-year-old deposits inWashington State and can serve to calibrate a molecular clock. Constraining the age of A. triphyllum to 18 million years (my) and applying either a semiparametric or an ultrametric clock model to the combined data yields an age of approximately 31–49 my for the divergence of A. dracontium/A. macrospathum from their Asian relatives and of 19–32 my for the divergence between African A. schimperianum and a Tibetan/Nepalese relative. The genus thus provides an example of the Oligocene/Miocene floristic links between East Africa, Arabia, the Himalayan region, China, and North America. The phylogeny also suggests secondary loss of the environmental sex determination strategy that characterizes all arisaemas except for two subspecies of A. flavum, which have consistently bisexual spathes. These subspecies are tetraploid and capable of selfing, while a third subspecies of A. flavum is diploid and retains the sex-changing strategy. In the molecular trees, the sex-changing subspecies is sister to the two non-sex-changing ones, and the entire species is not basal in the genus
Neutrino Induced 4He Break-up Reaction -- Application of the Maximum Entropy Method in Calculating Nuclear Strength Function
The maximum entropy method is examined as a new tool for solving the
ill-posed inversion problem involved in the Lorentz integral transformation
(LIT) method. As an example, we apply the method to the spin-dipole strength
function of 4He. We show that the method can be successfully used for inversion

Scattering and Pairing in Cuprate Superconductors
The origin of the exceptionally strong superconductivity of cuprates remains
a subject of debate after more than two decades of investigation. Here we
follow a new lead: The onset temperature for superconductivity scales with the
strength of the anomalous normal-state scattering that makes the resistivity
linear in temperature. The same correlation between linear resistivity and Tc
is found in organic superconductors, for which pairing is known to come from
fluctuations of a nearby antiferromagnetic phase, and in pnictide
superconductors, for which an antiferromagnetic scenario is also likely. In the
cuprates, the question is whether the pseudogap phase plays the corresponding
role, with its fluctuations responsible for pairing and scattering. We review
recent studies that shed light on this phase - its boundary, its quantum
critical point, and its broken symmetries. The emerging picture is that of a
phase with spin-density-wave order and fluctuations, in broad analogy with

Bridging the Gap between Probabilistic and Deterministic Models: A Simulation Study on a Variational Bayes Predictive Coding Recurrent Neural Network Model
The current paper proposes a novel variational Bayes predictive coding RNN
model, which can learn to generate fluctuated temporal patterns from exemplars.
The model learns to maximize the lower bound of the weighted sum of the
regularization and reconstruction error terms. We examined how this weighting
can affect development of different types of information processing while
learning fluctuated temporal patterns. Simulation results show that strong
weighting of the reconstruction term causes the development of deterministic
chaos for imitating the randomness observed in target sequences, while strong
weighting of the regularization term causes the development of stochastic
dynamics imitating probabilistic processes observed in targets. Moreover,
results indicate that the most generalized learning emerges between these two
extremes. The paper concludes with implications in terms of the underlying

Tropical Krichever construction for the non-periodic box and ball system
A solution for an initial value problem of the box and ball system is
constructed from a solution of the periodic box and ball system. The
construction is done through a specific limiting process based on the theory of
tropical geometry. This method gives a tropical analogue of the Krichever
construction, which is an algebro-geometric method to construct exact solutions

On the perfect lattice actions of abelian-projected SU(2) QCD
We study the perfect lattice actions of abelian-projected SU(2) gluodynamics.
Using the BKT and duality transformations on the lattice, an effective string
model is derived from the direction-dependent quadratic monopole action,
obtained numerically from SU(2) gluodynamics in maximally abelian gauge. The
string tension and the restoration of continuum rotational invariance are
investigated using strong coupling expansion of lattice string model
analytically. We also found that the block spin transformation can be performed
